That first puff on the next cigarette lets the brain have its nicotine hit in seconds and you feel the buzz of a brief euphoria. This is caused by sudden increases in levels of dopamine, a feelgood chemical in the brain. You feel yourself relaxing as anxiety levels fall.

Nicotine is a chemical stimulant so it is impossible to help you relax. You don’t use stimulants to relax! Every time you read the health warning or see a picture of diseased lungs on the packet, you experience fear. You may not recognise it as fear, maybe just a bit of stress or anxiety. Another lie is when a smoker says “I enjoy smoking. If that’s true then why are so many smokers trying to quit. Also if any smoker could go back in time and stop themselves from trying that first cigarette then they will do it. A smoker who says that they enjoy smoking is simply saying that they are too afraid to stop. They don’t think they can live without cigarettes. In other words FEAR.
After all, what is there to enjoy. When you smoke you can have lung cancer, arterial sclerosis , emphysema, angina , chronic asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, amputations. Bad breath, stained fingers and teeth, lethargy, wheezing and coughing. Is ill health and premature death enjoyable?
Another lie is “I can have a good quality of life by enjoying the bad things in life” Anyone who thinks being hooked up to an oxygen machine or being pushed around in a wheelchair because your legs have been amputated is a good quality of life is only lying to themselves.
Think what its like to be a smoker. Now imagine what it will be like to be a stopped smoker. Thinking of being a stopped smoker just made you feel good. A million times better than being a smoker of poison.
